I'm using LFS v2 as /var on a box I'm setting up. Whenever I use vi I
get the following error "Inappropriate file type or format". Hmm. The
perms on /var/tmp look correct. Linking /tmp -> /var/tmp solves the
immediate problem.

Then I go to build some packages. I get the same error again. Looking
at /var/db/pkg, I see the following:

total 3
drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 512 Sep 25 13:38 .
drwxr-xr-x 4 root wheel 512 Sep 25 13:38 ..
drwxr-xr-x 2 root wheel 512 Sep 25 13:38 digest-20010807
-rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 18446744073709551615 Sep 25 13:38 pkgdb.byfile.db

Methinks something very strange is going. I'll send-pr this, but I
thought I'd also check and see if anyone has seen this issue.

Thanks in advance...
