Hm.  I know that Sun won't recognize netgroups without NIS.

Personally, I *like* NIS.  It means I don't have to run rsync or something
stupid to keep my passwd files in line.  But I also recognize the importance
of being able not to run NIS.

A friend of mine is actually looking for a universal solution, so that's
why I asked here.  It's the most friendly forum to ask questions like
that!
