The crashing of w was already fixed by Christos Zoulas on 8/21/2000.
So the most recent snapshots should already be okay.

Seems there is some bug in -current ftpd, since it's apparently making
slighly wrong entries in utmp with -U option. This latter problem
should be send-pr'ed.
