Yes.
However, if you're a disbelieving type, why don't you try copying
the /var/db/pkg directory to your desired location (using pax -rwpe,
eek, wrong thread), rename /var/db/pkg to be /var/db/pkg-in-disguise,
set your environment variables and test it out...
