On my -current i386 system with -current xsrc, I can no longer produce
a configuration where the backspace key behaves te way I want.  My
requirements are:

- The backspace key must send a delete character (^?).  I use emacs as
  my editor, so ^H is not an option.

- The stty mode for my X terminals must reflect that setting.

- The backspace key must continue to send ^? when I run screen within
  an xterm.

I have tried every possible combination I can think of using the
resources ttyModes, backarrowKey, backarrowKeyIsErase, and
ptyInitialErase, as documented in the xterm man page, and have not
been able to produce a working configuration.

I have been able to produce a configuration that satisfies the first
two requirements, but when I run screen, the backspace key starts
sending "^[[3~", which is driving me completely nuts.

Any help would be appreciated.
