My command line was as follows (just for a simple copy operation):

cdrdao copy --source-device 1,3,0 --device 1,2,0

Unfortunately my plextor is on an atapi/ide bus and runs the scsi
command set over atapi.  I'm not 100% sure what the scsibus/targ/lun
should look like after all the remapping magic.

You didn't say exactly what you specified as the device.  Was it 
"--device /dev/cd1" or "--device 1,3,0"?  Did you try "--device /dev/cd1d"?
