Can someone with the right access to the CVS repository have a look at PR
kern/8001 and commit it if it makes sense or get back to me with some
commentary if it doesn't?

I'm CC'ing PK, but last I spoke with him he was a little short of time, so
I'm blasting the list in case someone else can look at this.
