Both.

For good measure I tested an HP-UX 10.2 box that had a keyboard layout
similar to the Sun type 5 (BackSpace above Return, Del in a separate
keypad to the right).  On the HP, the BackSpace key generates a
control-H, and Del generates 0x7f, just like the Sun.
