I noticed that there is a problem with the new nsswitch.conf stuff:

Basically, lots of programs start seg-faulting, like pine, emacs, and
even vi.

It seems that the problem is:  if you set "passwd: compat" and
"passwd_compat: nis" but you don't have yp running, you get hit!
