Don't hold me to this. I *want* to do a branch some time in January
and do the release freeze a couple of months after that. HOWEVER, this 
has not been discussed internally so please don't either hold me to it 
or flame me about it. When I've run it past enough people who are in a 
position to object and they have decided not to object, this may move
forward further towards reality.
