I strongly suspect it is a hardware bug in 10Mbps mode.  There is known
to be a clock source problem, and the address filter also does not work
properly in 10Mbps mode.  FreeBSD people are also seeing timeouts with
this hardware and their (completely different) driver for it.

Note, for me, not even a reboot fixes the problem sometimes.  I have to
power-cycle the machine once to _twice_ to get it to come back.

That would be great.  I do not have the time to actively hunt this down
