The reason to keep timed is for backward compatability. Some of us
still have some older systems kicking around that we don't feel
are worth the trouble of upgrading.

That said, I don't use timed at all on most of my NetBSD-1.3 and
above machines. Just on a couple that need to keep older machines
in sync.
