this is the same as what i have:

crw-r-----  1 root  kmem   3, 1 Jun 26 09:56 /dev/kmem
crw-r-----  1 root  kmem   3, 0 Jun 26 09:56 /dev/mem
-r-xr-sr-x  1 root  kmem  57344 Jul 19 20:43 /usr/bin/systat

and systat works for me, as `systat vmstat'.  i just updated and rebuilt
systat to make sure (as i had recently changed the way it does priviledged
operations).
