The g77 in -current is based on egcs 1.0.2, which is not the latest.  There
have been hordes of changes in-between, and we're looking at importing the
egcs 1.1 snaphots, or hopefully egcs 1.1 release, sometime soonish.  There
is an egcs-current pkg that will let you try this with an egcs 1.1
snapshot....
