I mean that he put a lot of effort into optimizing memory utilization,
and apparently no effort at all into making name resolution,
connection establishment and mail delivery asynchronous.   Reducing
memory consumption helps a little, but what helps the most is to get
the mail out of the spool quickly so that you don't have a lot of
processes sitting around consuming memory while doing nothing at all.
