I guess I should give some background here. The default negotiation for
the asynchronous map is buggy in some ppp implementations. To handle those
implementations pppd used negotiate this in a non-standard fashion. This
was changed a while ago, then reverted, then changed in the last release.
In my opinion there should be a hint in the manual page, or the FAQ that
mentions this fact, otherwise people will still get confused.
