I got rid of identical lines, but left the rest unchanged. Here is the
debug info. I started pppd with the following options:

130.149.221.149:130.149.221.1
debug
crtscts
netmask 255.255.255.0
modem
ipcp-accept-local
ipcp-accept-remote
nodeflate
defaultroute
connect "chat -Vf /etc/ppp/chat"

I am no expert, but for me that looks quite ok. Except, of course, that
the ping information didn't get back to me. But as described before: It
looked like the ping requests went out the modem and the answer came back,
but it didn't come out of pppd as it should. And it is exactly the same
output I get with the working pppd!

Should I include all this in the PR?

Bye, Bjoern
