Well, I also tried a cd recorder (a Ricoh one) on a sparc classic running
NetBSD 1.3_ALPHA, and the kernel could'nt even find this device (the
probe failed with these kind of messages). I tried different
cables/terminators without success. The same drive with the same cables worked
fine on a PC. It seems that the sparc scsi driver/hardware is a bit exigent
about the quality of scsi devices: I've got tons of problems with non-sun
scsi drives (even the prom could'nt find them).
