It is possible to get SCSI DAT drive cheap.  I paid $235 for my 
SCSI-2 DDS-2 Archive Python.  Yeah, it is a refurb, but it's also
got a 4 mag changer on it.  It's been fairly reliable and it was
cheap to obtain...
