Practically, I had the desire to halt the machine twice after seeing
the kernel probe output, an having to go to some menu for halt is ... 
awkward.

BTW, why not just (after issuing the usage instructions) drop into
a shell and let update, install, sysinst be shell-functions? Doing
'halt', 'reboot', whatever wouldn't be a problem then.
