In reponse to my query about SUP being broken, Andrew Gillham suggested
I check my date.  The date was OK, but when I looked at dates on the 
files in my sup-repository, I noticed they were all owned by some real
odd group... (401486), where they had been wheel or sources, or some
other named group before.

Then I realized I had re-installed my SUP in the don't-use-libc.13 
timeframe.  Now I must go and rebuild SUP and try again.  I bet
that will fix it.
