There is no conflict between the three defs for 'echo' since they have 
different protocols.

Make sure you have at least version 1.4b2 of the netatalk userland code - 
if you are running MacOS 8 you'll also need a additional patch.

What does ifconfig de0 atalk report? Does the atalk address get set?

The atalkd will exit if you specified -seed in the atalkd.conf file and 
there is another seed router in the network with a different netrange. Try 
starting atalkd with a atalkd.conf file containing

de0 -phase 2 -net 2-3 -addr 2.1 -zone "your_atalk_zone"

and adjust net's and addr's to local taste.
