} Do any of the other BSDs or Linux have registration schemes? (Or in Linux'
} case, do any of the few dozen standard Linux CD distribution houses have
} any kind of registration scheme?)

Freebsd asks you to fill out information during the install phase, and then
asks whether you're ready (configured for, and willing to) send the information
in. If you answer no, it tells you where the data is stored (in a file
on the root partition, IIRC), and asks that you please mail it in when your
configuration allows.
