Subject: pppd broken?

It seems that the latest pppd (from sources supped just this morning!) is
broken.  Instead of invoking my connect chat script, I just get the
following messages in /var/log/messages - repeated every few seconds:

	Sep 27 16:33:46 mac1 pppd[4848]: Serial connection established.
	Sep 27 16:33:47 mac1 pppd[4848]: Using interface ppp0
	Sep 27 16:33:47 mac1 pppd[4848]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/tty00
	Sep 27 16:33:47 mac1 pppd[4848]: Serial line is looped back.
	Sep 27 16:33:47 mac1 pppd[4848]: Connection terminated.
