Why only on the Amiga? At a minimum it should be built on all m68k
machines, to maintain a common userland.  Plus, if it handles endianness
corretcly, it is potentially useful on all ports.  While other systems
can't use it on Amiga floppies (due to sector format) or Amiga hard
drives (different partitioning system), it COULD be used on
non-partitioned removable media like zip and jaz disks.
