Esp. on ccd devices, where you cannot edit the disklabel at all.  You can only 
have one partition on a ccd and the size of that one partition is somewhat, 
uhh, unpredictable.
I have a ccd running that has more space in it than both partitions it is 
composed of, but it works fine, even if newfs complained about write error on 
the last block.  But the partition is still OK after 1 year and all others on 
the disks in question too.
