hm.  maybe now that I'm older and wiser I'll actually write up a seperate
driver.  i did much of one at one point but it would sometimes hang and
my housemates didn't appreciate my debugging on our network line ;).  I
will try to repossess the card from my old housemate and do some work on 
it.
