The VM problem which locks up a system is definately present on Sparc
port. I'm still running crack (a good way to burn some CPU time!) and
its memory usage jumped from 9 MB to 14 MB, which locked up my SS1+ for
20-30 seconds some 3-4 times in a row. I have 16 MB of RAM and 96 MB
of swap.

It seems that every process was completely swapped out. Top reports that
all processes use 0 MB of RAM - except for crack. The processes are now
being swapped back into RAM - gradually, as they want to get a chance to
run. Crack has only 8 k of data/code resident now, the rest (14 MB) has
been swapped out. According to ps, there is only some 1-2 MB of RAM in
use, but still top says there's no free RAM at all. Starting any process
causes massive swapping/paging and the system is very slow. I guess things
will get back to normal within .. well, 20 minutes have passed and my
editor is still very slow, starting new commands takes 10-20 seconds etc.

Argh. ;-)
