At least you have a fully used CPU  :)

I remember this sort of thing with earlier Emacs versions...  I think
it was something to do with having a broken signal handler, where it
would loop, always resetting the handler but not smart enough to exit.

Something like setting a flag and expecting to return to the main loop
where it will be checked, but the handler triggers before it gets
there.

I might be way off base here  ;)
