Speaking of gcc bugs (and on a forum where it is not really appropriate
because I am still using 1.0 here), it is also the case that gcc 2.7.2
does not generate a working 1.0/i386 kernel. It somehow messes up the
ncr 810 scsi code such that it will complain about fatal scsi errors and
give up. Reverting back to 2.6.3 avoids the problem - I didn't know
about adding -fstrength-reduce so I didn't try that.
