Well, re-installing the binaries for NetBSD fixed this one, mostly.  I
still don't understand what went wrong here.  Plus, INN still doesn't work
right... it dies upon startup with :

Feb 25 00:28:54 boogers innd: ME cant fopen /var/log/news/news Permission
denied

However, the permissions of that file are: 
-rw-r--r--  1 news  news  32182 Feb 25 00:26 /var/log/news/news

so it *should* work.  (and DID, until this happened)

Strange...
