I put
# getting more initial mem limits
options         DFLDSIZ=0x4000000       # 64 MB Data
options         DFLSSIZ=0x200000        # 2 MB Stack
in my config.  I am hoping that this gives me more, but I haven't been able to 
build a new kernel because of some problems with my source tree.

I think this is the right thing to do (TM).

Btw: why are these defaults so low in -i386 ?
