I heard a rumor, ages ago, that the regents released the 4.4 code into
the public domain. Is this true?

In either case, what's the copyright status of the NetBSD source? I'm
considering putting together a reliable standard C library, and would
like to do as little work as possible. (Applications would include
making ScumOS usable.) I'd like to be able to release it as
copyleft code, free for commercial or personal use. Obviously, if
I can get the Berkeley implementations for the majority of the code,
I'll win big.
