Actually, since "Megabyte" means 2^20 when it comes to physmem (you don't
see arrays of exactly 1,000,000 bytes/arrays of 8 bits (+1 for parity) on
chips), and the people who _use_ the disk drives are typically the same
people who use memory (SIMMs or what have you), it's perfectly reasonable
that we should probably nudge them a little bit to go by binary millions
of bytes rather than decimal millions. It would make things a lot easier
to deal with, and the disk drive companies wouldn't receive threatening
phone calls from irate customers :-).

 * So, you're going to stand up in front of 12 people chosen from the population
 * at large and inform them that "million" means 1,048,576 instead of 1,000,000?

See above. To anyone who uses a computer, "Mega" implies one _binary_
million, just as Giga does not imply 1e+9[ten], it implies 1e+30[two].

 *
 * Just be glad that disk manufacturers don't report capacity in octal...

<sobering>  That's a _scary_ thought...

[Octal??!!  <ROFL again>]
