I had the same problem with my system:
P100
Aha 2940
LB-IDE

Micropolis 1991 SCSI
Conner cfs1275a IDE

Seems like when I changed MAXBSIZE to MAXPHYS I was unable to boot 
(dumped into the debugger) and when I changed MAXBSIZE to 32768, the
system hung while trying to access the IDE drive. The system boots on the 
IDE drive.
