Use apsfilter.  You should be able to find a version of
apsfilter on ftp.freebsd.org.  It is probably called aps-48
and may already be `pkg'ed.  If not there, try a Linux site.
You can also try psf if you have a PostScript printer.
apsfilter seems to be quite flexible.  It will even print
uncompress documents on the fly (can grok gzip, pack,
compress, freeze/melt) and will let you print PostScript,
DVI, ascii, GIF, TIFF & a bunch of other image formats.
(with suitable support programs).
