It turns out that I now have it working, and will be happy to supply
patches and binaries as soon as I clean it up.

yupyupyupyupyupyupyupyupyupyupyupyup.  It does an sprintf() to create the
message, and one of the sprintf() args is a file offset.  quad_t meets
%ld, thousands homeless.  There's a few other bits of fluff that need to
be picked out; I should have it all ready for public consumption tonight.
