true, though i've still not been convinced that the 'cua' thing
is a 'good idea.'

Umm, no, the sparc port's 'softcar' is based only on the zs port's
config flags.

believe it or not, the above 'mess' wasn't a 'mess' -- it enabled
you to use a getty on a serial port.  before, that wasn't possible
to do safely, w/o hacking the kernel sources.
