Yeah, double the amount of swap is NOWHERE NEAR enough.  1.0 easily 
crashes and locks during low memory situations and heavy swapping 
apparantly.  From what I understand this will be fixed in 1.1, but the 
amount of swap quickly grows to 0 when X is running and another user logs 
on, for example.  4 times the amount of main memory is usable.  Probably 
8 times the amount of main memory is a safe amount... and recomment that 
at least 50% to 75% of that memory be on a separate physical disk than 
the main partitions.
