It shouldn't matter whether the device suppurts sync or not; the driver 
should detect this and continue using async on that device.  

I have done a great deal of cleanup in the sync negotiation area.  I 
managed to get my Q40s which with the old driver nogotiated 50% of the 
time and refused to be probed the other 50% to always probe on the new 
driver.  I simply don't have any devices that lock the bus on sync 
negotiation to play with.
