I experienced the same thing, but with a kernel I compiled straight from
the 1.0 sources. I also get a 'Where are you?' message when I log
in and I don't show up with 'who' or 'w'. I'm logged in, but not 
associated with _any_ tty... Anyone know what's going on here?
