I had the same problem with a 4 GB IBM DFHS on my MicroVAX  3100m95. The
system disk, a 2 GB DFHS has no problems. Sometimes on reboot (more or
less every reboot, as I reboot quite rare) fsck detects errors on the 4
GB disk (single 4 GB partition) and NetBSD drops to single user mode.
When I try to fsck by hand, fsck detects lots and lots of errors and
finaly dumps core with a SIGILL (SIGFPE?). I don't know the exact
details anymore, as I got distracted by port-ofppc some time ago. So the
VAX is currently unused and powered off. newfs was the one and only
thing that could make the disk usable again.=20
