Hm.   I'm not sure what a VAXstation 3100 is.   I have a vague
recollection that one of the groups back east put out a VAX in a form
factor just like the DECstation 3100, and that might have been called
a VAXstation 3100.   I'm not sure what kind of chips were present on
the motherboard, though.

If it's really got a VAX processor on it, you'll have to use the code
in the VAX port, not the code in the PMAX port.   You may be able to
steal some device drivers from the PMAX port, though - certainly the
dc7085 serial chip will be the same, and it may use the same SCSI
controller and frame buffer, but I wouldn't want to bet on that.

The bottom line, though, is that this isn't going to be a simple
bootstrap.  Currently, the only VAX support in NetBSD is for the VAX
11/750, which is a very different machine from the one you have.
There will be essentially no device drivers in common, and since the
750 has a rel VAX and the VAXstation 3100 probably has a MicroVAX cpu,
the MMU support may even be different.

If you're actually interested in doing the port, I may be able to get
a functional spec out of somebody in DEC (actually, I've been watching
new subscriptions come in, and there are probably now people reading this
message who are more qualified than I to try to get a functional spec
- anybody want to volunteer?).   But it'll be a lot of work for you,
of that I have little doubt.

The port maintainer for the VAX appears to be ragge@ludd.luth.se (I
don't have a full name handy), and he can probably give you some
suggestions and ideas.   He should also be able to give you some
status on the toolchain.
