Good question, but I think it's most likely somewhere between the OS and
the Xserver. On macppc XFree86 can't access PCI IO space but lots of
drivers depend on it, that's one reason why so many fail on many non-PC
platforms. I have a workaround which allows some of these (
voodoo3- and matrox-based cards for instance ) to work properly but it
might still be something different because very similar videocontrollers
work without any hackery on sparc64. The replacement drivers were just
compiled with the same (non-CPU-specific) options as on sparc64.=20
