Are you looking at Darwin's KExts? Or is the awacs driver available in xnu?

Don't know for sure. But it has to do with interfacing with the driver, so it 
might as well be. Even with mixerctl(1) adjusting volume is quirky, to say 
the least.

I just might :) But one more question: what about the Apple licensing? Is 
porting the Darwin AWACS driver to NetBSD allowed?
