I also installed pkgsrc/net/netatalk-asun/ very recently.
  Before doing so, I had several problem either building 2.1.3 or
2.1.4-test etc.  But those do not work well for me.

pkgsrc version works terrific. 
For the NetBSD/macppc, GENERIC already has option NETATALK, so you 
don't need to configure kernel.
You may need to add inteface name on /etc/atalkd.conf like just
mc0
and rest of parameter will be added automatically.
