I think I also had fsck -p problems, along with a problem with "disklabel
sd1" (in my system with two disks) crashing the kernel many many months
ago (1.3D, perhaps?) I don't think it was a panic, but a vm_fault. I was
busy and didn't need the extra disk, so I just took it out of my fstab and
didn't look into it any further.
