The important difference here is that there are a couple of independent
implementations of the C/C++ language that can all be used to bootstrap
GCC. TCC, GCC, Clang, Visual Studio just to name four. Being able to
build a subset with a more portable Scheme doesn't strike me as that
difficult to support.
