I'd been having a similar problem with a 1.5ZA for a while with the
first tty being generally mucked up.  I'd been meaning to get around
to asking about that but I don't really log into that machine too much
so it's not exactly on the top of my list of things to do :)  anyway,
I disabled /dev/console and kept ttyE0 enabled and it works just fine.
