actually, upstream have it as a ./configure switch, but it's good
to see that others don't use it.

i ran a quick test to comapre the resource consumption for these
and i'm convinced that the dynamic version wastes more memory in
all cases.  on amd64 if the 5 libraries are dynamically loaded
then 20 or 21 more machine pages will be allocated.

also makes alacritty work.  :-)  i'll commit something soon.
